It's... so dark...
Hale waved his hand in front of his face, but couldn't see even that much. His arm moved slowly, as if he were underwater. He could feel the weight of the air around him, if it even was air. It was a dense atmosphere, and Hale didn't like it. Broadening his senses, he realized that he was not sitting or lying on anything, but rather floating; suspended in the soupy air. He thought of the darkness being similar to Rohin's ink.
"Rohin?" he called out. He was not surprised when no answer was heard.
What the hell happened?
He remembered the quest for the lake. He remembered carrying Pratt. He remembered seeing Lucy and falling down a bottomless hole. Then... then the sky grew dark... a tornado came...
Hale blinked uselessly. The tornado was the last thing he could recall.
I must have been sucked up into it or something...
Sighing, Hale rubbed his fists into his eye sockets, as if it would help his eyesight; which it did not. He felt the blanket fall off his shoulder as he did so. Reaching an arm out, he felt around for it, but could not locate it again. The blanket was gone.
Idiot... I shouldn't have run up the hill like that... what a fool I am...
He floated there for a few moments, silently berating himself for his self-inflicted predicament. Astrid probably thinks I'm dead.
Astrid...
Hale bit his tongue and spit out the globule of blood that instantly filled his mouth. Jeez, I came on too hard... now I'm really stupid.
Forgetting his women-related problems, Hale began thinking of ways to get out of this place. He had two ideas of where he was. He was either trapped by a crazed and demented Rohin, or it was the Gaiaphage. Being smarter, he decided it was the latter.
Gaiaphage... hear me... hear me...
Help me.....
