(SOMEBODY HELPPPPP MEEEEEEEEEE. >.< I have now fallen in love with writing for Drake and his sister. >.<)
It was nighttime and the wind was howling and the rain was pouring down. The lightning flashed through Drake’s room and he turned over, too deep in his dreamland to care about the storm.
Well…until he bounced slightly in the bed when something jumped into his bed and quickly snuggled up to him. His eyes widened in surprise and he quickly reached for the lamp, flicking it on.
A little bitty girl was curled up to his side, shivering in fright and Drake felt his mouth tug upward in a smile. He pushed himself up into a sitting position and grabbed the girl, setting her in his lap. He grabbed for the nearest book and lifted up a magazine. He blinks and throws it between his bed and the wall, making sure that the magazine went under his bed as he grabs for another one. It was, of course, something to do with guns, but the subject matter didn’t really matter much to a little girl that couldn’t even read yet.
He gently holds her close and opens the magazine to one of the hunting articles. She giggled, patting the mountain lion as she made some purring noises. Drake found himself chuckling as he flipped the page to an archer aiming at the mountain lion. She claps for the archer as Drake’s chest rumbles, a story falling from his mouth about how the brave archer faced up to the meanie kitty. She snuggles up to her brother, looking at the final picture of the archer showing off the animal skin with curiosity, but the boy had flipped the page quickly.
The next story that fell from her brother’s mouth was something about rifles and how he was one day going to take the little girl out with their dad to go hunting one time. He pokes her little tummy and points to the oddly clad hunter, joking about putting her into one of those bright orange outfits. She makes a face and flips the page quickly but pouts when she realizes that’s the end of the magazine.
He hugs the girl tightly and she asks him about school. He freezes slightly, not wanting to tell her about how many enemies he’s made or about how he beats kids up on a daily basis. He definitely does not want to mention the dreams either, especially the ones involving the psychiatrist and hanging him with fishing wire.
He stays quiet for an abnormally long time before he just offhandedly mentions how he’s acing woodshop and questions her about school. Of course, the kids are still bullying her about how she can’t exactly read quite yet or how she’s always talking about guns, yet she’s made a friend!!
Drake finds himself smiling again and she happily hugs her brother, seeing her special smile that he kept for her safe and sound. She mentions about how Easter is gonna be here soon, and how that he should hunt for some eggs with her. He sadly turns her down, telling her that break would be over with soon, and he wouldn’t be back for another year.
She pouts and hugs him, telling him she’s gonna break him out of the school and they’d run away, like she always does. And he always tells her that she needs to stay near doctors so she can get better.
She never listens, of course, but she always falls quiet on this part until he suggests that she can sleep in his room while the storm rages on. She always happily takes this suggestion and snuggles up to him, happy to spend a rainy night in safety instead of scary loneliness that Mommy and Daddy insisted upon.
Drake turns off the light and holds the girl close, gently stroking her hair until she falls asleep.
It was a few days later that Drake returned to Coates.
And it was a week after that the news reported of a strange wall coming up along the coast of California, not allowing anything to break it.
